Issues: Taxes

Arkansas's tax structure is not competitive with our neighbors and many other states. The income tax code is in desperate need of reform; it has seen little change since 1971. We can lower taxes responsibly to bring relief to working families who have seen their federal taxes increase under President Obama. We can spur business expansion and job growth by lessening the burden on our small business as well. I support:

* A reduction in the state income tax so that working-class Arkansans are not disproportionately burdened by a top tax rate of 7%
* Eliminating the state's tax on manufacturing equipment
* Giving active duty and veteran service members a tax break, such as exempting military retirement pay from income taxes like many other states currently do
* Lowering taxes on utilities for small businesses
